The project is led by Silabario Gastronomía, one of Vigo’s most renowned culinary names and a Michelin-starred restaurant. Under the direction of Goretti Álvarez and with Chef Alberto G. Prelcic leading the kitchen, the Silabario Group brings its philosophy to a more open, dynamic format that is deeply connected to the city’s vibrant atmosphere. The result is one of Galicia’s most anticipated gastronomic openings of the season.
The return of a terrace with history
On 27 June, at 12:00 p.m., Universal Restaurant officially reopened its doors at Rúa Cánovas del Castillo, 28. The highlight of this reopening is the return of its iconic terrace, a space that remained inactive for many years and now comes back to life with a concept designed to blend naturally into Vigo’s social scene.
Overlooking the Vigo estuary, the terrace is divided into two distinct areas. One offers a relaxed setting for drinks and casual gatherings outdoors, while the other is dedicated exclusively to lunch and dinner overlooking the waterfront. These two complementary spaces allow the venue to adapt to every moment of the day, from an impromptu aperitif to a reserved evening meal.
Goretti Álvarez and Alberto G. Prelcic perfectly summed up the significance of the project: “Bringing life back to its iconic terrace on Montero Ríos was something we owed to the city. The opening of Universal Restaurant comes at a particularly significant moment for AC Hotel Palacio Universal. This year, the hotel celebrates its 20th anniversary under the management of ACHM Hotels by Marriott, marking two decades as one of Vigo’s leading hotels.
To mark this new chapter, the hotel has also completed a refurbishment of its facilities, modernising its public areas and upgrading its guest rooms while reinforcing its positioning within the four-star segment. This renovation is accompanied by the renewal of ACHM Hotels by Marriott’s management agreement for an additional 30 years, ensuring the long-term stability and continuity of the project.
