Three Consecutive Years with a MICHELIN Key
The MICHELIN Key is the distinction awarded by the MICHELIN Guide to hotels considered among the most remarkable within its international selection. Properties are assessed through anonymous inspections conducted by specialist inspectors and form part of a collection that now exceeds 9,400 hotels worldwide.
According to the 2026 MICHELIN selection, 2,832 hotels hold one or more MICHELIN Keys. Of these, only 155 have achieved the highest distinction of Three MICHELIN Keys. In Spain, the selection includes 122 distinguished hotels, with just five holding Three MICHELIN Keys.
Within this context, Santo Mauro’s continued presence among this select group is particularly significant. Part of Santo Mauro’s identity stems from its own history. Located in Chamberí, one of Madrid’s most emblematic districts, the hotel occupies the former residence of the Duke of Santo Mauro, a prominent figure in nineteenth-century Madrid society.
The property underwent a comprehensive renovation in 2021 aimed at preserving the historical value of the estate while adapting it to the expectations of contemporary luxury hospitality. The result is a hotel that remains deeply connected to its heritage while embracing a modern vision of luxury.
The estate comprises three buildings: the main palace, an adjoining manor house and the former stables. Inspired by the grand neoclassical residences of the nineteenth century and surrounded by a private garden, these spaces create one of Madrid’s most distinctive architectural settings.
French influence can be seen throughout the property, from its proportions and spatial layout to some of its most representative rooms. The Red Room and the Chinese Lounge preserve the historical character of the original residence and contribute to the narrative that defines the hotel’s identity.
