Santo Mauro and JW Marriott Hotel Madrid join the Día de Muertos celebration alongside Fundación Casa de México en España, with experiences that combine Mexican tradition, floral altars, gastronomy and signature cocktails.
The Mexican tradition of Día de Muertos arrives at two ACHM Hotels by Marriott properties in Madrid with experiences that combine culture, floral design, gastronomy, and mixology. Santo Mauro, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid, and JW Marriott Hotel Madrid join this celebration alongside Fundación Casa de México en España, bringing one of the most iconic traditions of Mexican culture to the heart of the Spanish capital.
Deeply rooted in Mexican culture, Día de Muertos honours loved ones who have passed away through altars, flowers, offerings, and traditional recipes. A celebration that transforms remembrance into an expression of life and stands out for its rich symbolism, vibrant colours, and distinctive flavours.
Through two initiatives with their own unique identity, both hotels reinterpret the symbolism of this tradition and incorporate it into their spaces and culinary offerings. Altars, flowers, offerings, and Mexican flavours come together to create an experience that invites guests and visitors to discover the cultural richness of this celebration.
JW Marriott Hotel Madrid: “Scents from the Beyond”
From 18 October to 2 November, JW Marriott Hotel Madrid hosts a Día de Muertos altar created in collaboration with Fundación Casa de México en España. Under the concept “Scents from the Beyond”, the installation takes inspiration from the baby’s breath flower, combining the symbolism of Mexican tradition with the elegance that characterises the hotel.

The delicacy and lightness of this flower become the guiding thread of a composition that pays tribute to a celebration in which flowers, colours and offerings play a fundamental role. The initiative also establishes a connection with the history of the building, which for decades housed the iconic Álvarez Gómez perfumery, linking the past of the venue with the floral concept behind the installation.
In Mexican culture, altars occupy a central place during Día de Muertos. Through photographs, flowers and offerings, families keep the memory of their loved ones alive, transforming nostalgia into a celebration of life. With this initiative, JW Marriott Hotel Madrid invites guests and visitors to discover the meaning of this tradition and its cultural richness.
Three Cocktails Inspired by Mexico
The experience is complemented by a selection of three cocktails specially designed for the occasion, bringing the flavours of Mexico into the hotel’s cocktail programme.
Among them is Madre Mía Margarita, a reinterpretation of the classic Margarita that combines cristalino tequila with hibiscus and blackcurrant cordial, lime juice, orange liqueur and a touch of absinthe, finished with a pink pepper and salt rim.

Meanwhile, Paloma by JW blends cristalino tequila, natural pineapple ferment, ginger and caramelised pineapple, enhanced by the distinctive touch of tajín seasoning. The selection is completed by Bloody María, a variation of the traditional Bloody Mary made with cristalino tequila, tomato juice, spices, Lea & Perrins sauce and a tomato, sugar and vinegar shrub, garnished with lime and a celery crisp.
This proposal expands the Día de Muertos experience through a gastronomic lens, reflecting the hotel’s identity and its commitment to incorporating cultural references into the guest experience.
Santo Mauro: Día de Muertos with All the Flavours of Mexico
Meanwhile, Santo Mauro, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid, hosts Día de Muertos celebrations for the third consecutive year. From 21 October to 2 November, the hotel transforms its entrance and lobby with the colours and traditional motifs of the celebration, through an initiative developed with the support of Fundación Casa de México en España, a leading organisation dedicated to promoting Mexican culture and strengthening ties between Spain and Mexico.
The décor includes an altar featuring black clay skulls from Oaxaca, large-scale decorative candles, papel picado and colourful flowers. These elements bring to the hotel the aesthetics of a celebration that honours memory and remembrance through a vibrant, symbolic and life-affirming perspective.

The experience also extends to gastronomy and mixology. From 25 October to 2 November, Mexican flavours take centre stage with a special selection that includes the traditional pan de muerto, available during coffee service, and three cocktails created for the occasion, served with an exclusive morro and chorizo quesadilla tapa.
The cocktail menu features three distinctive creations. Paloma de los Muertos combines Mezcal Unión, Don Julio Blanco Tequila, habanero, Ancho Reyes, lime and grapefruit soda in a spicy and vibrant serve.
Calavera highlights the warm notes of Don Julio Añejo, spiced pumpkin, coconut and a touch of Amaretto.
Finally, Margarita Prohibida offers a premium interpretation prepared with Don Julio 1942 Tequila, fresh lime juice and agave, finished with black Himalayan salt.
A Mexican Brunch to Complete the Celebration
Santo Mauro’s programme also includes a special Mexican brunch during the weekends of 24 and 25 October and 31 October and 1 November. The experience combines some of the classic dishes associated with this dining format with recipes and ingredients inspired by Mexican cuisine.
The brunch begins with a tropical fruit juice made with passion fruit and mango, a michelada or one of the specially created cocktails, accompanied by skull-shaped biscuits and the essential pan de muerto.
Guests can then enjoy dishes such as morro and chorizo quesadillas, pozole, a traditional chicken broth, chicken with mole and Mexican-style sea bass ceviche.

The selection of main courses also includes carnitas served with tortillas and pico de gallo, as well as grilled boneless poussin with mole and rice. To finish, calabaza en tacha provides a sweet ending to a menu that pays tribute to the flavours and vitality of this tradition.
Two Hotels, One Celebration of Mexican Culture
The initiatives presented by Santo Mauro and JW Marriott Hotel Madrid share a common goal: bringing Día de Muertos closer to Madrid audiences through experiences that highlight its cultural significance. While “Scents from the Beyond” connects Mexican floral traditions with the history and identity of JW Marriott Hotel Madrid, Santo Mauro presents an experience that combines décor, gastronomy and mixology to explore different facets of the celebration.
The collaboration with Fundación Casa de México en España strengthens the cultural dimension of both initiatives and contributes to spreading a tradition in which remembrance, offerings and the celebration of life occupy a central place.
Through these experiences, Santo Mauro, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid, and JW Marriott Hotel Madrid integrate culture and gastronomy into the hotel experience, offering guests and visitors new ways to discover Día de Muertos in the heart of Madrid.
